HOW FALLOPIAN TUBE BLOCKAGE CAN STOP YOU FROM GETTING PREGNANT: SYMPTOMS & TREATMENT

There are many factors that affect women and can stop them from getting pregnant. One of them is the fallopian tube blockage and this affects about 20% of female infertility.
Fallopian tubes are female reproductive organs that connects the ovaries to the uterus. This is the path that transports the egg from the ovaries to the uterus.
This distance can be blocked for certain reasons and may obstruct this journey from taking place resulting in infertility.
Conception also takes place in the fallopian tube, so if the sperm cannot get to the female egg, then it’s impossible to get pregnant because the sperm needs to move to the uterus for implantation to take place.
This is the major role of the fallopian tube and must take place before conception can happen.

MAJOR CAUSES OF FALLOPIAN TUBE BLOCKAGE.

There are many cause of fallopian tube blockage and they include;

1.FIBROIDS:

Depending on the size, these growths can actually block the fallopian tube, especially when they grow close to the uterus.

2.SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASES:

Certain STDs have been linked to fallopian tube blockage. Disease such as Chlamydia and gonorrhea can cause scarring which may lead to pelvic inflammatory disease.

3.ENDOMETRIOSIS

Endometriosis in simple terms is a painful disorder in the female reproductive system in which tissue that usually lines the inside of a woman’s uterus begins to grow outside of it. This commonly involves your ovaries, the tissue lining your pelvis and the fallopian tube.
This painful growth outside of the uterus is usually linked to causing a blockage in the fallopian tube by causing adhesions.

4.PELVIC INFLAMMATORY DISEASES:

Pelvic inflammatory diseases includes diseases that usually cause watery fluid to block the fallopian tubes. These fluids may be mucus or pus. These diseases are usually termed hydrosalpnix. Hydro is water while salpnix is fallopian tube.
This blockage type is usually caused by STDs, endometriosis and infection in the pelvis. Usually there are no symptoms but most common symptom is the vaginal discharges. These condition can severely impact your effort in getting pregnant.

5.BOTCHED ECTOPIC PREGNANCY

The process of botching an ectopic pregnancy can have a scar in the tissues of your fallopian tube which may stop conception from taking place.

6.PAST SURGERIES

Any surgery especially in the fallopian tubes can leave a scar which may lead to pelvic adhesions that cause tube blockage.
You need to carry out a test to find out if one or both of the fallopian tubes are blocked. All hope is not lost if only one of the fallopian tube is blocked because the egg can still travel to the unaffected tube to implant.

DIAGNOSIS:

In diagnosing for fallopian tube blockage, doctors usually use a process called hysterosalpingography (HSG). HSG is a process where the doctor inserts a dye into your uterus to examine the inside of your fallopian tube to find out the reasons for the blockage, if any.
The dye used helps the doctor to see the fallopian on the x-ray machine. It is usually done during the first half of your menstrual cycle.
Another method of diagnosis is called laparoscopy. This is a diagnostic procedure that doctors use to examine the inside of human organs. This low risk procedure requires only small incisions without open surgery.
The equipment used is called a larascope which is used to look at the abdominal organs. A larascope is a thin tube but with high-intensity light and a high resolution camera. The equipment is inserted by creating insertions in the abdominal wall. As the tube moves along the abdominal wall the camera sends images to a video monitor.

SYMPTOMS OF FALLOPIAN TUBE BLOCKAGE

It is difficult to ascertain fallopian tube blockage symptoms. Doctors usually check for infertility causes if one has been trying to conceive for more than one year.
Sometimes, symptoms may include pains in the pelvic or abdominal area. This pain might be regular, especially around the menstrual period.
One other symptom is when fertilized egg gets stucked in the tube leading to an ectopic pregnancy which can only be seen through a scan.

TREATMENT OF FALLOPIAN TUBE BLOCKAGE

There are various ways to treat fallopian tube blockage. Once confirmed through diagnosis, a laparoscopic surgery can be used to remove small amounts of scar tissue or adhesions and open up the tissues.
If the scar tissue is large, treatment may not be possible. It may be possible to repair tubes damaged by ectopic pregnancy or infection.
If a part of the tube is damaged, a surgeon may remove the damaged part and join the two healthy parts together.
Some traditional medicine laid claim to some herbal or natural treatment for fallopian tubes, but there are no scientific evidence to back that.

YOUR LIFE AFTERWARDS

After a successful treatment, it is very possible to conceive. The chances of conception depends on the methods used for treatment and the severity of the fallopian tube blockage.
From statistics, a successful conception is usually more likely if the blockage happened near the uterus. It is more difficult if the blockage is near the ovaries.
If your tubes were damaged by an ectopic pregnancy or infection, chances of conception is usually small.

Have a discussion with your doctor before treatment.
