We are going to discuss all about listeria prevention and treatment during pregnancy. Listeria is a bacteria that is found in some foods that can cause food poisoning. This food poisoning can lead to miscarriage or can adversely affect the baby.
 
This bacteria is common found in farm animals and pets. This bacteria known as Listeria monocytogenes is easily eaten in raw foods and semi-cooked foods. When it infects someone, the disease is known as Listeriosis and it is potentially serious once infected.
 
The symptoms include mild fever, nausea, flu, diarrhea, headache and muscle pains.
 
In severe cases, this bacteria can cause blood poisoning known as Septicaemia, Meningitis and Encephalitis which is an infection of the brain.
If one contracts Listeriosis while pregnant, it can lead to still birth or miscarriage. Infected newborns can develop meningitis or other infections.

The best way to prevent Listeriosis is to avoid foods that can contain the bacteria and to maintain high hygienic standards.
Basically, you need to avoid unwashed foods, foods kept open, raw food, pate etc. you should always look at the dates of production and expiration before consuming packaged foods.
