Indigestion also known as Dyspepsia is a pain in the stomach which mostly occur after eating. Indigestion in the early stage of pregnancy is likely caused by hormonal changes and it is more common and frequent in the second and third trimester.
 
Symptoms of indigestion include heartburn, feelings of sickness, vomiting, regurgitation and feelings of being full.
 
Heartburn on the other hand is a pain in the throat or breastbone caused by stomach acid originating from the oesophagus.
 

Indigestion and heartburn can be caused by the following:

a)Bending over
b)Foods high in fat
c)Feelings of anxiety
d)Eating peppermint
e)Eating chocolates
f)Eating big meal
g)Caffeinated beverages
h)Fruit juice
 

HOW TO AVOID INDIGESTION AND HEARTBURN

a)Eat small meals
 
b)Lie on your left side often
 
c)Sleep on pillow as high as 10cm
 
d)Do not go to bed immediately after eating
 
e)Do not smoke
 
f)Chew more gum
 
g)Avoid caffeinated drinks and juice that cause you to have heartburn and indigestion
 
h)Sit up straight while eating
 

 

NOTE: If your heartburn symptoms don’t go away after a while, see your doctor, it could be symptoms of pre-eclampsia.
